Hi, Debbie. I was so grieved to hear of your cancer diagnosis, and so encouraged as I read your messages on your website. You are fighting a battle that I can only dimly conceive of; I am struck with the patience, faith, and courage it must take to endure through such a battle. My mom and my cousin were also recently diagnosed with cancer. I will pray for you as I pray for them. Much love to you, Debbie. --Laura

Debbie--Thinking of you on chemo #3 day and praying it will wipe out any remaining cancer cells and that you will have your healthy and energetic body back very soon! It's so great that you're sharing yourself in such a personal way on this web site (good job, Fritz!)-- I continue to check it daily, and it helps to keep you and your family constantly on my mind and in my heart. I'm sure it was designed mainly to help encourage and lift you up, but in turn, I am also encouraged and inspired by your faith and positive attitude, and by the love that is being shared with you! May God continue to bless and keep you all safe in His care....Cheri

Hi Debbie and Dewey,

We hope you are doing well and, Debbie, we hope your treatments went well today.

There is a good article in the online version of The New Yorker, about the "war on cancer." It's at:

It contains lots of links to good online sites for learning about cancer, and it talks about some encouraging developments.

Again, we hope you are doing well and you continue to be in our thoughts.

Debbie, I praise God for the good news about your progress. He answers prayer in a powerful way. It is our faith in His love and power that make every update a wonderful and powerful one. May he continue to remove the cancer in the way that He sees fit. I hope to see you soon, and will call sometime when we can talk. Take care of yourself and know that you are deeply loved here in South Carolina.

Okay, maybe one major drug treatment a day is enough. We will continue to pray that your white blood count soars so that your body can work with the chemo to wipe out the cancer next week.

GA USA - Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 09:16:12 (CDT)

You were in my thoughts and prayers yesterday, as you underwent chemo. I hope that all the prayers from everyone helped your body to handle the chemo well! I hope that you will feel well today, and that the chemo / prayers / herbs / nutrition / and God will continue to help shrink the tumor.

By the way, in case it might possibly help - I printed out a couple of recent photos of you (from your trip to the beach) and put them in the "health" part of my apartment which I have tried to feng-shui as much as possible, since many friends have given me positive feedback about how feng shui can sometimes be very helpful.

Lots of hugs,

Debbie, I am so glad I was able to meet you and your beautiful family today. Your Dad is delightful; I have given him Rasheeda Carkhum's (social worker) number at Emory Hospital. She is very aware of the many resources available to patients and is extremely knowledgeable about government programs. Hopefully, they can make whatever is necessary happen. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance at any time. I do appreciate your Dad turning me on to your website. I will share it. Take care.

Dear Debbie,
Have been thinking of you all weekend, knowing that this would be the day for your treatments. We pray that all will go well and that after your rest, you will continue with the "getting well" process.
It's lovely here today, we've been so blessed with cleansing rains.
I think of your treatments as just that, cleansing rain! The air is no longer filled with the acrid smell of smoke...your body will no longer be filled with cancer. The birds are chirping and bringing us will be filled with joy and singing, too!
The pain will cease completely, as you are filled with renewed, cancer-free cells!

"I lift up my eyes to the hills--
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let (my) foot slip--
he who watches over (me) will not slumber;
indeed he who watches over (me)
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over (me)--
the Lord is (my) shade at (my) right hand;
the sun will not harm (me) by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep (me) from all harm--
he will watch over (my) life;
the Lord will watch over (my) coming and going
both now and forevermore."
Psalm 121

Consider yourself hugged...Mom, too! :-)
We love you very much and pray for you constantly.

Hi Debbie

It seems like ages since I've put a message on, but that doesn't mean that you are far from thought and prayer. My list of runners is increasing for our Race for Life which we will run at the end of July. Even Donna!!!! eh? She will be blaming me when she is huffing and puffing round those country lanes! But we are so looking forward to that.

Debbie, I have just returned from a weekend in Glasgow with friends - a self-improvement course called Mindstore for Life by a guy called Jack Black. It concerns the power positive thinking and being futurists whilst not denying the reality we are in. We meditated and did some re-programming!! I know that with prayer, positive thinking and believing that all things are possible and that nothing is too small for our God, you will have the strength and courage to keep on, to win that race.

I was telling my friends on the course about you on our train journey home. I gave them your web site to look up. My friend did so in the early hours of this morning and then e.mailed me to offer his help with any of the technicalities of the challenge of your health insurance. He specialises in health insurance. If you want to email him, maybe he can help you in some way. His name is Eddie Rodwell and his email address is Eddie is also a hypnotherapist and counsellor and he helps many people. But he is also a beautiful person who loves God. He would like to help you too if he can.

God bless Debbie, your web page is so positive and proves that we are in a family who really care about each other.

Iris Tinto, Kettering.

I love you
Love to Dewey and Aurora

We had an absolutely lovely visit with Dewey's parents and were so happy to be able to meet Dewey and Aurora, as well as Debbie's mother and sister, Tami. We loved Tadpoles, but especially, we loved Aurora. I would love to have taken her in my arms and held her and rocked her. She is a precious and beautiful child. We check your webbsite regularly and are continually praying for your recovery and for God to strengthen and support your family as their needs arise. You seem to be a very strong person, have much faith and are surrounded by marvelous love, from your family, friends and most of all our Father. We ask God's richest blessings and healing power upon you and your lovely family and friends.

Chre Debbie,

Hi Debbie,
We are back home in England but really tired from the flight.
I have only been up a couple hours and am ready to get back to bed, I believe Gloria has already retired to it.
It was good visiting you and I appreciate the way you have managed to stay much the same as ever. I was quite worried about how I would react to seeing you so ill. I think I handled it very well, dont you?
I told dewey that he should have his head shaved as well, as a sign of solidarity. I even promised to do the same!
He's taking some time to think it over.
As we left on your Birthday, we missed all the parties you must have had, but we wish you all the best, with many, many many more to come. We love you and pray for you constantly.

Dearest Debbie,

I appreciated the second part of your interview. "Mature love casts out all fear", has been a central, encouraging verse to me for years. I realized that most of my emotional pain came from fear about 20 years ago. I felt much anger back then but under the anger I found fear. Fear was every where in my old preChristian life. I have been praying for years to be able to have a mature love. When I can be there,in love (in God), I am free. May you and all the people who love you and will love you as they get to know you, share a perfect love.
Truly Yours,

Yo' Debbie!
Just finished reading the second installment, you are a wonder, Girl! What a joy to know how you feel, and what a privilege to know how you are facing your fears. At sometime in our lives, we all have to face them...head on! Bill and I have certainly been tested, but we keep on truckin'. You just have to!
I pray that Dewey can find some relief and be able to do "his thing!" That will be a great release for him.
The Lord's been good to us these last few days, sending some gloriously refreshing RAIN! Even the orange tree out back wonders what's got blossoms on it again!I think I saw it "smile!" It bloomed in Feb., but a big wind blew, causing a lot of the blooms to "lose their grip!"
We talked about you last night at Wednesday Bible Study. We are all thinking about you and praying for a continuance of the "feel good stuff" that's goin' on!
Well, sweet girl, keep getting better, know that you are loved and thought of CONSTANTLY, and keep hangin'!
Give hugs all 'round!
Much love, Barbara :-)

Dear Debbie,
I gather from the most recent messages that today is your birthday.I hope yours was just grand. You deserve to put things out of your mind for a while and sit back and enjoy your birthday. The following is a story I thought you might enjoy.

"I was sitting, torn by grief.Someone came and talked to me of God's dealings, of why things happen,of hope. He talked constantly,he said things I knew wer true, but I was unmoved except to wish he'd go away. He finally did.

Another came and sat beside me. He just sat beside me for an hour and more, listened when I said something, answered briefly, prayed a simple prayer, and left. I was so very moved. I was comforted, I hated to see him go."

I Believe
I believe in the sun
even when it is not shining
I believe in love
even when I feel it not
I believe in God
even when He is silent.

Debbie, I am still praying for you and your entire family.
We have come to love you all and we will keep all of you in our prayers, at home, in the car, at church. And we will continue to ask others to do the same

I am so glad the Rogers have them, Mary says she and Mrs. Franklin just talk and talk. I just read your interview and it makes me very sad that a young mother could be going through this trial. I will pray for you . I don't know if you have met Misty Holland, The Rogers daughter, or not but when she was going thru her bad time several years our church prayed continually for her. You both are such inspirations to us all, God love you. Sincerely, Sandra Puryear

Dear Debbie, received an email from a dear friend, Steve Puckett, what a wonderful way to send you messages of support. Since we've never met,let me just tell you how we know your Dad and your uncle Bobby. Dick and I went to school with them at Mel Hi. We wanted to offer you some encouragement and let you know each new day brings hope for finding ways to cure this terrible disease and making the side effects more tolerable. I had very aggressive stage 3 breast cancer 20 years ago, Dick had prostate cancer nine years ago. What we both learned was that you need to take it day by day and not look at the big picture, it is too overwhelming. Set some short term and long term goals for yourself, they can silly or serious but you will feel so good when you accomplish them. Then reward yourself for reaching those goals. We also experienced the power of family, friends, and strangers praying for us. We will be praying for you and your family.I hear Emory is one of the best for treating cancer patients, you might want to consider calling the American Cancer Society, in Atlanta, they can offer some support. I read some of your messages, oh how fortunate you are to have some many people who love you and your family, hold onto that thought let it comfort you and just concentrate on getting better. Thinking of you,
Dick and Penny Goode from Melbourne.

Here is a, couple days early, a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I am sure the family will be celebrating with you this weekend. I will be in prayer that your weekend and that the 22nd is a totally pain free LOVELY day as I am sure that would probably be one of the best presents you could receive.
I will probably try to call you soon, as I miss hearing your upbeat cheery voice. Grandma was asking about any updates and I encouraged her to call Tami and see if you were up to a Grandma phone visit. I hope she does try soon. She was so very glad that you got to visit together.
Hope you are having a good day today.

Dearest Debbie,

I often wonder about God's purpose for tears. They come at times of joy and sorrow --these two are separated by a thin veil. And we can move back and forth between the two, sometimes feeling the overwhelming intensity of both. Tears are an offering just as our very breath.

I looked at your pictures without tears - you are amazingly beautiful, open and free. But, I read your words and the tears began... and behind them both joy and sorrow. You have been given a gift beyond what we can imagine or understand - this brings both joy and sorrow. Joy for the chance that you have to shine in God's glory every day as you live fully, thankfully. Sorrow for the suffering that happens along the way.

I continue to ask for God's blessings upon you and your loved ones..for His purposes to be so fully realized in your lives that there is no mistake about where our hope lives.

I love you.

Dearest Debbie,
I'm working hard to put a CD together of tracks from musicians who want to support you through this difficult time. I would like to use your "Artist Circle" concept and maybe call it "Artist Circle,Healing Art". So far, Victoria Williams has expressed interest in the project and I hope to have several others in the mix soon. The idea of the power of positive art, that you worked on in the Artists Circle, is an important one. It would help me to have some information on your site for the project so that I could refer potential supporters to a project link about the CD and give updates. Hopefully, we could raise some money from sales and also let people know about your Artists Circle concept and your dreams for your oasis in France. Artists, or people who know Artists who might be interested in the project, please email me ASAP.

Dear Debbie, I have just had you on my mind so very much recently. I have a friend about your age or a little older who is in Memphis. His name is Charlie Hester. He has received word that he has only a week or two to live. He was the Youth Minister at Woodstock. How I wish that he had had something like a web page where he could feel all of the love and support. On days that I'm down or hurting either emotionally or physically I can come here and lift your name up to God in prayer and something wonderful happens...I feel more peaceful and less anxious. A lot of that feeling comes from the wonderful attitude you have. Your great love is shown through the many many support letters. Each seems to speak of your beauty (both inner and outward), each speaks of your faith, and your love for all of us. Debbie, I really care about you. Tell Tami, I think of her often and pray for her too. I would like to hear from either of you anytime you feel like talking or e-mailing me. I hope this will prove to be a beautiful week for you.

I just wanted to send you a note to let you know that I've been praying for you and your family. Your website is very well-done, informative, and encouraging. Mike was here on Friday with Greg and Kris' dad. He gave us some details, too. I hope and pray that you will heal, feel good, and that you will rely on the Heavenly Father. I have never been through any kind of trial such as yours, so I don't know what it's like for you. I have tried to put myself in your place, and I think it's impossible. Thank you for sharing your experience through the website--it really is an encouragement to me to see how you and your family are coping. Are you familiar with "tlc,"a catalog for women with cancer? You can call the toll-free number 1-800-850-9445 to get one. Debbie, I always think of the time we went to Disney World when we were teenagers and acted like Valley Girls! Dearest Debbie,
Happy belated Mum's Day. Thanks for reminding us all that every day is a special day ... a priceless gift. That's what YOU are to us that know you! We take such joy in every bit of your attention. Thanks for knowing how to make all of us feel so special. I think it's God's gift to you ... to us.
Thought about you strongly as we sat in the little flower garden outside our door. It was a Debbie moment. While our noses were caressed by Sweet basil, rosemary, dill and parsley mixed with brilliant marigolds, flox, verbina, kosmos, begonias, pansies and topheavy snapdragons (and a few more of which I can't remember the names right now) a family of doves were cooing on the roof (they made a nest in our hanging basket by the door and hatched two dovlets) and the evening breeze was cool and the air damp as icecream clouds lazied across the great Texas sky ... kids' toys scattered in the fresh cut grass and neighbors driving by and waving ... we thought it'd be nice to have you and the Dew and Aurora too sitting on the chairs on the lawn with us. You'd scratch your head and say something hilarious that would set us all to laughing and I'd try my best to say something crass, Erin would smack me and then the kids would run over to get theirs in as well and it would be one of those moments you remember forever ... when everything is just right. Well, even without you all there I still managed to say something I got smacked for and here came Cami, running over to get his punch in and Addie not a step behind. It was still a good moment. Wish you all could have been in on it. I guess in a way you were since we were thinking about you.
I am praying that this week will be full of good days, healing days and Debbie moments.
Hugs and kisses all around

So glad you enjoyed your third Mother's Day! I heard from your dad that there were 3 mothers there, TOGETHER, all at once! Oh my, all the excitement...Oh my, all that ADVICE!!! :-)
It was a glorious day here, too, with many phone calls during the day, all from Kristy in NC! Does that child (36 yrs. old) miss me or what?!?!?! And, a nice long visit from our daughter, Kelly, who lives here locally. I spoke with my own sweet mom too, knowing she is safely "residing" with our dear more pain or loss of memory from that dreadful Alzheimer's Disease. It was a great day!
I'm so thankful and pleased that you are doing so well. Praise God for his tender love and care! Keep smiling and give hugs all 'round...especially to your mom and dad.

Dear Debbie & family- I only know you as a sister in Christ. Our name is the same so we have another connection too! I have been praying for you & your family ever since Phyllis & Tari told me about you last week at the Pepperdine Lectureship. The letters of encouragement and the prayers that are 'bombarding' heaven in your behalf are a testimony to the power and love of our Lord Jesus Christ in all of us! I praise God for the blessing & opportunity to pray for you and your family, with confidence in His healing power both physically and spiritually. I read today of a woman (you may already know of her) - Nancy Brinker. She is a cancer survivor and activist in cancer research and awareness. She has served on the Nat'l Cancer Advisory Board and written the book: 'The Race is Run One Step At A Time'. I have not read it, but, am inspired by her tenacity and passion for a cure to be found. I will find out if she has an email address and send it to you if interested. The Komen Foundation sponsor's "Race for the Cure" events nationally. My prayer for you is for courage, strength, peace & reassurance of God's power and care for His own! Dear Debbie and Dewey,

I have heard about your challenge from our mutual good friend Rick Vorhaus, and I wanted to quickly write to you.

During the times we have met I have often been impressed by the spirit you both share for life and by the conviction you seem to firmly hold that there is great joy in a life of love and friendship, simplicity and honesty.

Your daughter Aurora seems to glow with this and is living proof of the goodness of the life you have chosen.

Debbie, you will be often in our thoughts and Jeanne and I will be checking back frequently to see how you are progressing. Dewey, we will be thinking of you also as you work to maintain your stength for Debbie and Aurora. We will send a financial contribution soon to try to help out in some small way.

The last time we met, Debbie, you blew a kiss as I walked away into the chilly London night. Now I am sending one back to you!!

With love to you both,

Hi Debbi, This is Erica in Mrs.Crawfords class. How are you? I've been praying and thinking of you. I hope you are ok. Every night before I get into my bed I pray for you, hoping you are alright. I am wishing for you, during school, through out the day. You are stuck in my heart as if you are my sister, or my mother. I also pray before I eat my nutritious meal, but I am still thinking of you no matter what I do. When our team won my softball game we said, "We won this game for you." The game score was 29 to 0 I said maybe we could do this for a very special person named, Debbie. That's why they said we won the game for you. Hope you are ok. Well, I better go, Bye, Erica.

Hi Debbi,I'm in, Mrs.Crawfords, class.I hope you are okay. Every day I pray for you.I think about you, also. You are like a sister to me. I hope I get to meet you someday. I want to be your friend. Well your more than a sister to me, your more like a mother to me. Well I better get going, bye, Karina.

Dear Debbie,
How are you? I'm doing good. I know that I've never met you,but it feels like I've known you. How is your treatment going? I hope good. Well, I better go and Good Luck & God Bless,Rachel.

Hey Debbie
This is Lynsey. From Mrs. Crawford's class. I feel sorry for you becase if anyone in my family had a disease it would be me!!! That is scary because im only 10 years old and it is scary. So I just wanted to let you know that you will have at least one pray every night from me. Well I hope you feel much better, and I pray you survive, we need survivers in this world to tell kids who want to know about diffrent kinds of diseases, and we need you to tell about them and I pray that you feel better and heel.!!! You and your family are such an inspiration! I'm always telling Earl what a great family he has and that I wish my family were more like yours. You, Aurora and Dewey continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

I can speak for both Sonja and I that we continue to share your burden. Please be encouraged by our constant prayers for you and your family. I also have to say that the meeting we had in Oakland several weeks ago was a powerful experience for me. I trust it was for you and your family as well. I truly felt the power of God in that place. As we prayed, I must say that I did not know what to say. I probably should have been patient and let God present Himself. In the end I know he did.

I was simply amazed when I first met you. It was as if I had known you for a very long time. I believe that our meeting was ordained by God and also believe that he has instructed me to continue to pray for your healing. He truly has given you life and life more abundantly. I praise God for His faithfullness to you. I hope to talk with you and pray with you soon.

My very best,

Jeff (& Sonja) Dumo

Dear Debbie, Dewey and Aurora,

I have had you on my mind quite a bit today. It is truly amazing to come to your web page and read all of the support letters you are getting. These letters are an encouragement for all of us. You are loved so much and by so many people the world over. I do add my prayers to theirs that our Father will be right beside you. My grandmother had a phrase "Keep God in your vest pocket." It means keep God close and next to your heart and He will be with you always. We love you.

Dear Debbie and Dewey,
I read your updates regularly and find you to be such an inspiration of heart. To hear you sound so positive and grateful for the good outcomes in a not-so-pleasant situation is a lesson. My love and best wishes for the coming adventures in chemo-land.

You were in my thoughts and prayers all day yesterday. It was so nice
to see pictures and get an update from Dewey so soon. You look great, as usual!
Dewey, you should have been a writer!! You are able to paint with your words, as well as with your paints!
Love you all,
